Increased amounts of toxic formaldehyde were found
A few months ago, Tedi GmbH & Co. KG announced that increased amounts of toxic formaldehyde had been found in various bamboo plates, bowls and drinking cups as part of product tests. These products were then recalled. The callback has now been expanded.
We do not recommend using the dishes
Information about the previous recall can be found here.
The recall of the bamboo plate 25 cm (2 designs) has now been extended to all article numbers and the extended sales period from 01.02.2018 to 08.04.2019.
“Product tests showed elevated levels of formaldehyde. This substance can be hazardous to health, so further use of the dishes is not recommended, ”says a customer information.
According to the information, the bamboo tableware can be exchanged for a refund of the sales price of € 1.25 or € 1.50 or for another item in each branch.
"Formaldehyde is harmful to health, it irritates the mucous membranes and can cause cancer in the nasopharynx if it is inhaled," reported the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) years ago.
In the recent past, not only Tedi, but also two furniture stores have taken toxic dishes out of the range or called them back.
And recently the Saarland consumer advice center pointed out that hazardous substances such as formaldehyde were also found in reusable-to-go bamboo cups. (ad)
